Institut Pasteur in Iran
The Pasteur Institute of Iran, established in 1920 through a collaboration between the Institut Pasteur in Paris and the Iranian government, is a leading medical research center located in Tehran and one of the oldest and most prominent public health institutions in Iran and West Asia. For over a century, it has played a pivotal role in combating infectious diseases, earning significant national and international recognition. With a workforce of more than 1,300 employees and five branches nationwide, the institute serves as a key hub for vaccine development, biopharmaceutical production, and diagnostic kit manufacturing, while also operating National Reference Laboratories to manage infectious diseases in Iran and neighboring regions. Beyond its research and public health contributions, the institute offers advanced Ph.D. programs and educational initiatives in fields such as medical biotechnology, microbiology, and systems biology. Over the past century, the Pasteur Institute of Iran has built an essential foundation for the development of an investigative, laboratory-based biomedical culture in Iran, and its influence and contributions have spread far beyond the boundaries of its original mandate.
