University of Hong Kong -Pasteur Research Pole (HKU-PRP)

HKU-Pasteur Research Pole (HKU-PRP) was created in 2000 through the joint initiative of the University of Hong Kong and the Institut Pasteur in Paris. The Pole has currently 7 Group Leaders with a staff of about 50 people. They benefit from the outstanding scientific environment offered by the School of Public Health of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong.

HKU-PRP contributes both locally and internationally to research on the basic mechanisms of viral infectious diseases, with a focus on emerging infectious diseases such as SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, MERS, and other infectious diseases such as influenza and dengue.

Overall, researchers at the Pole pursue discoveries that illuminate the complex interactions of pathogens with host cells. The HKU-Pasteur Research Pole has pioneered and established, in close synergy with the University of Hong Kong and the Institut Pasteur, an advanced teaching program in life sciences for postgraduate students and postdocs from all over the world.

Combining excellence in research and teaching, the HKU-Pasteur Courses encompass three major international courses per year (Cell Biology, Virology and Immunology) and smaller training and technology-oriented courses organized or co-organized by HKU-PRP and HKU. The Teaching and Training Centre is also available to HKU for organization of workshops, at both the local and regional level.

The HKU-Pasteur Virology, Cell Biology and Immunology Courses have been recognized by the Research Postgraduate Committee of the University of Hong Kong, which has included it as a credit-bearing teaching in the coursework curriculum of MPhil/PhD students since 2007. All information about the international courses and workshops is available on the HKU-PRP website.

The HKU-PRP recently celebrated its 20 years anniversary and compile a commemorative book with highlights and successes from this first milestone.
