Pasteur Network and Climate Action Accelerator Partner to Strengthen Climate Action and Decarbonisation in Global Health and Research

11 May 2026

The Pasteur Network (PN) and the Climate Action Accelerator have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a multi-year strategic collaboration to accelerate climate action and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the global health and research sectors.

Recognising the growing impact of climate change on health systems and communities worldwide, the collaboration will support the development of low-carbon and climate-resilient models for health and research organisations, and promote the adoption of ambitious, science-based emissions-reduction targets across the Pasteur Network and the wider global health ecosystem.

Dr Rebecca Grais, Executive Director of the Pasteur Network. “Climate change is a defining challenge for global health. By partnering with the Climate Action Accelerator, the Pasteur Network reinforces its commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of health and research activities while continuing to protect populations around the world,” “This collaboration will help translate environmental responsibility into concrete, collective action.”

Bruno Jochum, Executive Director of the Climate Action Accelerator. “Health and research organisations have a crucial role to play in the transition to a low-carbon society,” said “Working with the Pasteur Network allows us to support a globally embedded scientific community in accelerating decarbonisation efforts and sharing sustainable solutions as a common good.”

Driving decarbonisation and resilience in global health

Under the MoU, the Pasteur Network will participate as a collaborator in the Climate Action Accelerator’s initiative, contributing to its three pillars: empowerment, championing climate leadership, and engagement in a community of practice. The Network will encourage its members to engage in decarbonisation pathways, adopt resilient operational models, and share tools, experience, and lessons learned related to environmental responsibility. The Climate Action Accelerator will support the Pasteur Network’s efforts through technical and strategic expertise, facilitate access to shared resources and peer learning, and develop programmes to help health and research organisations accelerate their transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient future.

     Initial focus areas

The initial joint work programme includes:

  • Promoting sustainable and resilient practices across the Pasteur Network, including climate-responsible operations;
  • Supporting readiness for emerging climate and environmental WHO/GMP requirements, particularly in vaccine manufacturing;
  • Sharing experience and influencing peers through joint events, workshops, and community engagement;
  • Strengthening internal environmental commitments within the Pasteur Network team, including responsible travel, green events, and digital practices.

Through this collaboration, the Pasteur Network and the Climate Action Accelerator aim to mobilise actors across the global health and research ecosystem, contribute to collective climate ambition, and ensure that health institutions play an active role in addressing the climate crisis while strengthening the long-term resilience of their activities.

About the Pasteur Network

The Pasteur Network is an alliance of 32 organisations which plays a crucial role in tackling global health challenges through science, innovation and public health. Its distinctive strength lies in the diversity and extensive geographic reach of its membership, spanning 25 countries across five continents and united by shared values and missions for the benefit of populations,  fostering a dynamic community of scientific knowledge and expertise that is both locally embedded and globally connected (pasteur-network.org)

About the Climate Action Accelerator

The Climate Action Accelerator is a non-profit initiative based in Geneva that aims to mobilise a critical mass of organisations delivering essential services to populations around the world, in view of accelerating the implementation of science-based climate pathways and contributing to a domino effect in society.
